P.E.S.T.

A couple interesting prospects, but nothing that has me all-out excited. It's time for Pre-Emptive Strike Thursday!

--------------

Title: Race to Witch Mountain.

Pre-Thoughts: I know of the original, probably even seen parts of it, but I don't think I've seen the whole thing. Regardless, I enjoy Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and this movie actually looks kinda fun... though the trailer does pretty much give away the ending (on them getting to the mountain) for those who haven't seen the original. So who knows? I might be there.

I Am McLovin!

Title: The Last House on the Left.

Pre-Thoughts: Another classic remake of which I have not seen the original (I know, shame on me being a horror fan and all). But at least it's not a remake of another brainless slasher flick. It's close, but at least this one has a story that kinda turns it all around on its head. Horror remakes almost always disappoint (Dawn of the Dead being one of the few exceptions in recent years). But I might check it out eventually, if simply because I like the premise.

Stop Saying Okay! Okay.

Title: Miss March.

Pre-Thoughts: Is it just me, or does anybody else feel like they've seen this movie before? It's like another Road Trip/EuroTrip, mixed in with The House Bunny, a bit of Just Friends, and a sprinkle of any number of the crappy "National Lampoon" movies to come out in recent years. I really have no strong feelings one way or the other about this movie... just that it looks tired and so-done-before.

Feed Me, Seymour!

Title: Sunshine Cleaning.

Pre-Thoughts: Never heard of it before this point. It has a decent cast, though--Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Alan Arkin, and Steve Zahn. It also has a bit of an interesting premise. Too bad that it's gotten zero publicity and is probably just under limited release.

Pre-Score: Can't score it.

Title: Brothers at War.

Pre-Thoughts: Never heard of it, either. An unknown cast. Another movie involving the Iraq War. And probably a limited release. In other words, I really don't care.

Pre-Score: Can't score it.

  1. Hey Nick,

I know this is not the right place to post this, but I didn't really know where else to do so. I've been reading your blog for a little over a year now, and I think your reviews and other features are incredible and cunning.

But anyway, I saw a movie today that, for some reason or another, I would love to hear your opinion on. It's an Italian film called "Life is Beautiful" about a Jewish Italian man who is sent to a Nazi camp with his son, and pretends it is a game the entire time to keep his son from being afraid. If you get a chance to rent this, please do. I absolutely loved it.

    Thanks,
    Chris

  2. Chris: Wow, thanks for the compliments! Glad to hear I have a long-time fan :P .

I've heard of the movie, actually. Ironically, it's the earliest memory I have of watching the Academy Awards, because I remember when the director won, he hopped/walked over all the chairs to get to the stage. A great moment.

Though I haven't seen it, for whatever reason, I know I'll get around to doing so eventually. Maybe sooner than later since you'd like to hear my opinion.

Thanks for introducing yourself! I hope to talk to you more in the future.

  3. All these movies look terrible. Bad time for movies, save some money this week.

@Chris Life is Beautiful is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's such a beautiful movie done right and always have tears by the end. The relationship between the father and son and how he risked his life to keep his boy innocent was beautiful.

  4. Shoot, of all these, I'd see Sunshine Cleaning first, though I can't say that I'm terribly interested in it. Weird that you've seen nothing for it, though if you don't get the chance to see many smaller films where you are, it shouldn't surprise me that you haven't seen many trailers for smaller films.

I think I would die if I lived in a small town. I mean, I see plenty of dumb blockbusters (and good ones, too), but if that was all that was available....I'd go nuts.
